The 2025-26 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Boys Player of the Year is Marvin Ridge’s Henry Smith. Henry had an outstanding senior year helping to lead the Marvin Ridge Mavericks to a 22-6 record, and advanced to the Elite-8 of the NC 7A State playoffs for the first time in school history.

Smith led the Mavericks in scoring with a15.4 points per game average while grabbing 4.6 rebounds per game, he dished out 3.4 assists per game and added 1.0 steals per game as a senior. Shot 36% from 3-point range. Henry scored double figures in 19 games including a season high 32 points in a 71-62 overtime win over Sun Valley. Henry dropped 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists in 77-69 win over Huss. Had 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in 88-57 win over Myers Park.

Henry was named UCHoops 1st Team for the second year in a row. Nameds All-SCC as a senior and 3rd team All-District. Named the UCHoops Player of the Week three times during the 2025-26 season.

Henry Smith is the 1st Marvin Ridge Maverick ever to be named the UCHoops Player of the Year and will leave Marvin Ridge as the school’s 7th all-time leader in points (828) and 5th all-time in rebounds (326).

The 2025-26 UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Year for the 2nd straight season is Marvin Ridge senior wing Kate Schindler. Ms. Schindler helped lead the Mavericks to a 23-5 record, a SCC Championship and into Elite-8 for the NC State Playoffs. Ms. Schindler averaged 15.5 points per game, along with 6.0 rebounds per game and added 3.2 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game this season, all while shooting 41% from 3-point range. Kate was named UCHOOPS Player of the Week 5 times this season. Kate was named 1st Team All-UCHoops, the SCC Player of the Year and All-SCC as a senior. Kate was anmed 1st team All-District along with being named to play in the NC SC Carolina Classic All Star game.

Kate scored her 1000 career point in a win over Charlotte County Day earlier in the season. Ms. Schindler scored double figures in 23 games, topping 20+ points in a game 9 times this season. Scored a season high of 29 points in a win over rival Porter Ridge. Had 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists in win over Ardrey Kell. Scored 25 points in the sweet-16 win over Hickory Ridge. Had 5+ assists in a game 9 times this season.

Kate leaves Marvin Ridge as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1390 points, all-time leader in career assists with 263. Schindler also set school records for most points in a season with 571 her junior year. A Union Co. record for points in a game with 58 vs. Cuthbertson, a Union Co. record for most 3-pointers made in a game with 12 vs. Cuthbertson. Kate will continue her academic and basketball career as a Richmond Spider this coming fall.

Kate Schindler is the 1st Marvin Ridge player to be named a 2-time winner of the UCHoops Player of the Year and the second Marvin Ridge Maverick to win the award joining former Maverick Jordan Henry, who won it in 2011-12!
