Nas Tyson (FH)

2018-19 BOYS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2018-19 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Boys Player of the Year is Forest Hills' Nas Tyson. Tyson finished the 2018-19 season leading Union Co. in scoring with 18.3 ppg average. Tyson led Union Co. in assists with 4.9 a assists per game & 2.3 steals per game while grabbing 6.7 rebounds a game as a senior.

Nas became Union Co's all-time leading scorer this season and finished his four year career with with 2169 career points. Nas is one of two members (Piedmont's Hunter Tyson) of the boys 2000 point club. Nas was named 1st team ALL-UCHOOPS.com, 3rd Team All-State, 1st team All-Distrct, 1st team All-Rocky River and was named Rocky River Conference Player of the Year. Nas was named UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Week FIVE times in 2018-19. Tyson scored 587 points in 2018-19, which ranks 9th all time in Union Co. history. Nas finished his outstanding career with 2169 points (1st All-time), 823 career rebounds (3rd All-time) 451 assists (1st All-time) and 306 steals (1st All-time).

Nas helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 29-3 record, a Rocky River Conference title, RR Tournament Title and the 2A State runner Up.

Tyson joins former Yellow Jacket greats Marc Clyburn and Jennifer Hailey by being named the UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Year.

MaKayla Smith (UA)

2018-19 GIRLS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2018-19 UnionCountyHoops.com’s Girls Player of the Year is Union Academy's MaKayla Smith. Ms. Smith finished the 2018-19 season leading Union Co. in scoring with a 19.6 ppg average and also led Union Co. in assists with a 5.1 per game average. Smith also grabbed 5.8 rebounds per game and had 4.9 steals per game. Ms. Smith scored a season high 33 points twice this season. MaKayla joined the 1000 point club this season.

MaKayla was named 1st Team All-UnionCountyHoops, All-PAC7 along with being named 2018-19 PAC7 Player of the Year and was named 2nd team All-District. MaKayla was named UnionCountyHoops.com's Player of the Week for week 10.

Ms. Smith helped lead the Union Academy Cardinals to a 27-3 record and to the NC 1A Elite-8. MaKayla is the first Union Academy Cardinal to be named UCHOOPS.com's Player of the Year. Congrats MaKayla!!!
